چکیده

Abstract Objective: Prior factor analyses have supported the multidimensionality of post-concussion symptoms, but symptom total score is often interpreted alone in practice. This study examined added value norm-referenced subscales to detect different subtypes presentations following concussion. Method: Adolescent student-athletes (N = 1008; 15.3 ± 1.4 years-old; 66.7% boys) with one or more prior concussions, at least 6 months post injury, completed Post-Concussion Symptom Scale preseason baseline. Severity ratings on four (i.e., cognitive, sleep-arousal, physical, and affective) were compared normative data matched gender preexisting health conditions. The frequencies which participants elevated calculated. Results: In sample, 21% only subscale, 11% two subscales, 8% three 6% subscales. Among a single all domains had similar elevation. No differences elevations found based number concussions. Conclusion(s): A single-domain elevation was most common presentation among cohort adolescent student-athletes, 26% subscale not score. These findings indicate that there are would be missed through an interpretation severity alone.

Chronic Post-Concussion Neurocognitive Deficits. II. Relationship with Persistent Symptoms

Individuals who sustain a concussion may continue to experience problems long after their injury. However, it has been postulated in the literature that the relationship between a concussive injury and persistent complaints attributed to it is mediated largely by the development of symptoms associated with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression. We sought to characterize cognitive ...

A study of persistent post-concussion symptoms in mild head trauma using positron emission tomography.

BACKGROUND Complaints of persistent cognitive deficits following mild head trauma are often uncorroborated by structural brain imaging and neuropsychological examination. OBJECTIVE To investigate, using positron emission tomography (PET), the in vivo changes in regional cerebral uptake of 2-[(18)F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) and regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in patients with persiste...

Acute concussion symptom severity and delayed symptom resolution.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Up to 30% of children who have concussion initially evaluated in the emergency department (ED) display delayed symptom resolution (DSR). Greater initial symptom severity may be an easily quantifiable predictor of DSR. We hypothesized that greater symptom severity immediately after injury increases the risk for DSR. METHODS We conducted a prospective longitudinal coho...

Effect of Manual Therapies on Parameters of Post- Concussion Symptoms Recovery : A Systematic Review

Objectives: Post- concussion syndrome (PCS) is a syndrome resulting from an injury to the head leading to loss of consciousness. It includes several symptoms like fatigue, headache, dizziness and difficulty in concentration. Athletes possess a major threat to PCS and its treatment is still considered controversial. The objective of this systematic review is to study the impact of manual therapi...

Analysing Qualitative Data: More Than ‘Identifying Themes’

Reliance on the identification of themes as the goal of analysis is endemic in qualitative research. Often, in funding proposals, there will be a lengthy description of how qualitative data are going to be gathered, but the only thing said about how these data are going to be managed or analysed is that ‘themes will be identified in the data’. Similarly, writers of journal articles often simply...
